the useurl url shortening tool works by enabling very long web addresses to be turned into short, manageable memorable ones. any http, ftp or mailto address you place in the text box is converted into a useurl.us address, which can then be used as a normal url by magically redirecting to the original page or site address saved by you.

useurl was conceived to offer a free way of conveniently making very long url's into nice short, manageable ones.

we also wanted to provide ease of use and a clean, beautiful interface to encourage vistors to use and recommend our service for more than the simple fact that 'it works'.

for those interested in the technical side of things, the site was designed and built in about 7 days from start to finish. we utilise a mysql database for the safe stable storeage of web address data, and the site runs on php, html and css. design throughout is tableless and controlled purely by the css. the useurl blog is powered by wordpress 2.1 with a hacked up version of the hemingway template to integrate the look and feel.

page size is kept to a minimum so the whole site should run fast and efficiently.

useurl.us runs on a server powered by suse linux and apache.
